A constantly updated driver tracker to see who has signed and who hasn't so far ready for the 2021 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.
BTC RACING
BTC Racing announced at the end of last year both Jack Sears Trophy winner Michael Crees and title contender Josh Cook re-signed with the team for the 2021 season before adding Jade Edwards (who featured for PMR last season) to complete their line-up.
Ciceley Motorsport
It may be a new car for Ciceley Motorsport for 2021 with the news of them building 2 brand new BMW 3 series with the help of West Surrey Racing but one thing will remain the same and that’s Adam Morgan as he signs with the family team for the 8th season in a row. Joining him is a new face to the team but by no means to the sport, with 2010 Independents Champion Tom Chilton signing for the new season.
Excelr8
One of the biggest driver moves of the off season was Tom Ingram announcing he would leave Speedworks/Toyota and join Excelr8 in the relatively new Hyundai i30 which proved it was capable of getting podiums last year and will be interesting to see how “Tingram” will perform in the new team.
MB Motorsport
MB Motorsport will also be joining in on the new car trend for 2021 with the team announcing they would be retiring the FK2 Honda Civics that have been in the championship for what feels like forever and will run 2 Focus ST’s following the recent acquisition of Motorbase Performance. Driving the cars this year will be Jake Hill and Ollie Jackson who drove the same car last year for Motorbase Performance.
Motorbase Performance
Sam Osbourne will be hoping to follow up what has been a strong start to his BTCC career where he has improved year by year and will be looking to turn his 4th place Jack Sears Trophy finish last year into a chance to bring home the trophy in 2021. Andy Neate will also be returning to Motorbase for the second year in a row and will be hoping to improve on his 24th place finish that he achieved with the car last year.
Laser Tools Racing
Laser Tools racing may have joined forces with Team Hard, but the driver line up will be relatively unchanged with last year’s champion Ash Sutton once again piloting the Infinity Q50 alongside Scottish teammate Aiden Moffat and new signing Carl Boardley.
Power Maxed Racing
Returning from only his 2nd year away from the series since 1997 Jason Plato returns to the BTCC in a season where he will exceed 600 Race starts becoming only the second driver in history to cross that number. Dan Lloyd will pilot the second PMR car for 2021. Dan has competed in 45 BTCC races over the years but has never completed a full season, something he will hope to do and have success with at Power Maxed Racing.
Toyota Gazoo Racing
Toyota Gazoo will be launching an all-out attack on the British Touring Car Championship in 2021 with the team taking over control of the Speedworks entry and employing Rory Butcher and Sam Smelt to lead the charge for the team. Butcher picked up 3 wins last season and finished an impressive 5th place in the overall standings whereas Smelt had been joining forces with Speedworks in British GT, driving their Toyota Supra to podium positions last year and will be eager to impress in his second attempt at the BTCC.
Team Dynamics
Having finished third in the past 2 seasons, Dan Cammish would have been hoping 2021 will be his year having re-signed with Team Dynamics for his third season the BTCC. However, news broke today (2nd March 2021) that the Yorkshire driver would not be driving for Team dynamics this year. This news has fuelled rumours that Honda are removing their backing with the team however there has been no confirmation of this yet. Team dynamics did announce that they would name their first driver (again) on Friday 5th March and the second in the coming weeks. Gordon Shedden Returns! The 3x BTCC champion announced his return to the series with the team he won all his titles with after a year 3-year break from the sport.
Team HARD
Team Hard will be running this year with a whole new fleet of Cupras which will be driven by 5-time race winner Jack Goff, Former British GT Champion Glynn Geddie, and the returning Aaron Taylor-smith after a 4-year break where he competed in both the British GT and Blancpain GT series where he picked up a class win along the way.
Trade Price Cars with Xcelr8
The Trade Price Cars team retain driver Chris Smiley following a strong season, where he was heavily involved in the development of the brand-new Hyundai i30n. He will be joined by Jack Butel who had a highly successful debut season last year with Ciceley Motorsport which resulted in him finishing third in the Jack Sears Trophy. In a sentence I never thought I would write Rick Parfitt will be racing in the BTCC this season. However, it’s not the Status Quo frontman, but his son Rick Parfitt JR. Rick has had great success in the British GT series, claiming multiple race wins and picking up a championship in the Ginetta GT4 series.
West Surrey Racing
4x BTCC Champion and last season’s runner-up Colin Turkington will be looking to add a record breaking fifth BTCC title to his name in the West Surrey Racing 3 series BMW, where he will be re-joined by teammate Tom Olliphant. Tom enjoyed his best season yet last time out with 3 Podiums and a 6th place overall finish. Stephen Jelley completes the line-up for 2021, marking his return to the team he made his BTCC debut with back in 2008.
